On 25 March 2025, the Spanish Council of Ministers approved a draft bill to create a law criminalizing the violation of EU sanctions. The bill is part of a requirement issued in EU Directive 2024/1226 directing EU Member States to harmonize enforcement and penalty standards for violating EU sanctions, which was adopted in April 2024.
